Visas
Australians and New Zealanders with a parent born in the UK usually qualify for right of abode and, therefore, have unlimited rights to live and work in the United Kingdom. Those with at least one British-born grandparent can apply for an ancestral visa, which is valid for 4 years on the condition that you will be working or looking to work in the UK. Otherwise, lawyers seeking permanent employment will need to be sponsored by an employer, which can be more difficult to achieve, as the employer must show the immigration authorities that it has tried and failed to recruit a UK citizen for the job.
The UK also offers citizens of Australia and New Zealand two year working holiday visas. These, however, are unlikely to be suitable unless you are seeking short-term paralegal work, as they prohibit time in one job to a maximum of three months and stipulate that employment must not be 'career enhancing'. In all cases, it is wise to arrange visas from home rather than arrive in the UK on a tourist visa.
